Why would we not want Puerto Rico as another state?

It’s not even about what we want, it seems. The Puerto Ricans have had the opportunity to choose statehood on several occasions through popular referendum, and they voted it down each time. It’s not necessarily about whether it would be a good thing or not... it’s HOW it’s being done that’s disturbing.

Gee, I don’t know. PR welfare in NY has worked out so well. And sure, another 20 million stiffs added to the DemonRat vote stuffing cabal. Gosh, go figure, it’s sounds great!

Personally, I welcome it. However, others here on Free Republic are opposed to it because it will guarantee another two Democratic Senators, 15 or so Democratic Representatives, and two more Democratic electoral votes.

I think it is ALL A PLOY for immigration amnesty.

Puerto Rico would be the FIRST Spanish speaking State in the Union.

I believe this is what the Progressives want more than the 2 senators and 6 Reps.

I am not sure this would be good for the America we are trying to hold on to at the moment

What Publius772000 said. I remember this issue comes up for a vote in PR about every 10 years, and I personally would like PR to either become a state or just go independent. Each time both have been voted down by the PR people because there are greater advantages to them staying a territory (welfare without federal rules, etc).

Also, lately the US has tried to add two states at a time, not just one. I think one of the reasons that the Obama regime is pushing for PR statehood is that it will be used to make the argument for DC statehood. They want a “black” state (even though DC is now majority white).
