I used to go to a gym where a couple of the local SWAT members worked out. I didn't converse with them a great deal - usually "hi" and "how ya doin'?" - that kind of thing. But I did get to hear their banter on several occasions. Your description is accurate. Maybe they didn't want to kick patriotic butts, but they wanted to kick whatever butts their boss told them to kick. Almost a sadistic attidute at times.
I was always polite to them - just in case. :)
