I had a former business partner who utilized his 12-year-old son’s unused SSN in the early 80s
to create new Lines of Credit for himself because his own credit was so wrecked. Shameful!

After all these years, seeing the world in all it's horror and splendor, it's still shocking to see
what some people will do ... for money.

Yep. And, as in the examples you mentioned, it rarely pays off in the long run.
