Um....’show me your health insurance papers’ is OK, but ‘show me your citizenship papers’ is not? The Feds don’t even need probable cause for the health insurance scheme.
Perhaps, the response to media types calling for free migration, rules-be-damned, would be to verify their reaction to walking in on their newscast or set or building.
I believe one doesn’t even have the option of “showing papers” to get in.

I’m all for curbing illegal immigration but I can’t see how this law can be enforced without requiring citizens to carry some sort of national ID. A drivers license won’t work because illegals can get those easily enough.
I hope Scarborough likes his job because since he has burned all his bridges with the Republican base politics is no longer an option (unless he switches parties).
The border issue isn't about the general population, its about a specific problem with a specific group of people who are breaking the law. "IF" someone appears to be of a certain group of people who are breaking the law, they are simply asked to show proof of citizenship. There is NO problem if THEY ARE citizens. On the otherhand IF THEY ARE NOT citizens or legal immigrants, that is when the problem starts for them.
A legal immigrant has no problem. They are welcome here. A legal immigrant, you would think, would have a certain pride in proving that they belong in this country.

How are you, as a Hispanic man, going to quickly demonstrate that you're not an illegal immigrant? Are you now going to be forced to carry your birth certificate or passport with you, just in case you receive a speeding ticket? My driver's license doesn't reflect my citizenship statues. I imagine yours doesn't either.
I'm all for cracking down in a major way against illegal immigration, but I'm not entirely comfortable with this approach. This, IMHO, takes us down the road of an eventual national ID card - no thanks!
I have no problems with LE making a determination of citizenship after they affect arrest on someone. And, even if that person is not convicted of a crime, they should be deported, assuming they don't have a valid visa. And clearly, bail should be denied because they're in the country illegal. They certainly couldn't be trusted to make an appearance at a later date. But, the libertarian in me isn't comfortable giving the state this kind of authority. I think it's a slippery slope.
