...Banning earmarks will not shrink the size of the federal budget. It will just mean that a bigger portion of the budget goes to Obama and his czars, while a smaller portion of the budget goes toward projects that constituents can at least get some use out of...

“So let’s not attack them or stop...because they won’t make a difference. Hey why even vote or try...it won’t make a difference...LOL. Earmarks are an easy target...identify it, polarize it, make it personal and link it directly to the idiots we want to get out of office. Most people can understand why an earmark is bad and that may be all you need to get someone to vote for someone who pledges they will not earmark.”

But it’s not that Congress is spending money on districts that is the issue. It’s that it’s spending TOO MUCH MONEY. Earmarks are like the line-item veto—hard to run on, not much impact when the bills are unconstitutional to begin with. Why make the case against the eventual fleas when the dogs bite harder and first?

Our local paper refused to endorse my former (and future) congressman because of his record in the state legislature and US house of representatives.

The editor complained that as a state legislator he never once voted for a new tax or tax increase in 14 years and as a congressman he brought virtually no money into the district.

He’s leading the democrat who took the seat by double digits today. He’s got my vote again.

I think you do that by arguing for a radical change like ending the income tax, not a piddly incremental one like ending earmarks. But that’s why I’m not ensconced in a cushy DC office, I guess.

Of course you have to end that...the tax system is completely broken.

Either the fair tax or a national consumption tax is the only way to create a balanced and measurable tax system.

Term limits are needed.

Career politicians need to go the way of the dodo bird.

Business experience should be required and they should only be allowed on “committees” if they have relevant experience.
