The most interesting thing about that 2006 straw poll list is that Ron Paul doesn’t appear anywhere on it. Weird that just a year later you couldn’t find an online/straw poll almost anywhere that he didn’t win or come in second, which continues to this day. Did this support just crop up overnight? Anyone have an insight?

He probably figured out a way to start gaming the system, after he finished poorly in the 2006 SRLC poll.
These days, he runs his outfit like a military campaign, and leaves nothing to chance, making sure he buys as many tickets in bulk for his foot soldiers as he can, so they can vote for him. The only surprise here is, he is alleged to have bought 800 tickets yet finished up with just half that # of votes.
