It also appears to be a violation fo PayPal's use agreement for an entity to take "donations" that is not a legitimate not for profit.

Free Republic is not a "not for profit" yet PayPal lets this site keep the "Donate" link.

How do you explain that?

Uh, it is a registered entity with a public benefit purpose. Didn’t say it has to be a 501c(3). If people are taking “donations” and they are not an entity with a public benefit purpose they are violating PayPal’s user agreement. If you don’t agree with that, take it up with PayPal.
