I would like to add: "the fact of the matter is ..." when whatever follows those words are merely your opinion. I've gotten to the point that I don't hear anything past 'the fact of the matter is'...

Or just "the fact that" to refer to another's counterfactual assertion. When you use the phrase that way you have logically given the argument to the other side. That one glitch that is common in Rush's arguments that gets me yelling at the radio. If it is a fact then you have no grounds to argue against it.
