Dennis Prager is fond of saying he'll take clarity over agreement any day and that is a good phrase to keep in mind when you open your big mouth to join the debate. In keeping with the quest for intelligent dialog, here is a list of ten things that I think we should all stop saying because it makes those who indulge in them look, well, stupid.

You both beat me.

I’m really surprised, three people know what it means. I didn’t think there were that many.

The person to whom I was posting mentioned “alot” for “a lot” ,which is what you see written : My “alright” for “all right” also refers to written communication mistakes.

” I mean “ , “like” and “ you know” are ones that drive me nuts

You can also string them together into “ I mean, like , you know “ Which really makes my eyes cross. Sometimes for good measure just toss a “ how come “ into it.

I know. I was just kidding. Of course you are right, though.

Or just "the fact that" to refer to another's counterfactual assertion. When you use the phrase that way you have logically given the argument to the other side. That one glitch that is common in Rush's arguments that gets me yelling at the radio. If it is a fact then you have no grounds to argue against it.

"I'm not going to lie to you"

That one is like nails on a chalkboard.
