New York State Puts In Request For Office Furniture
South Bronx School Blog ^ | March 31, 2010 | Bronx Teacher

I am surprised not one blog, most of all Gotham Schools has yet to mention this. The fact that the Post did I find shocking. In fact I didn't know about this until I spoke to a colleague just a few minutes ago. But I do have a big s**t eating grin now. I wonder if RtTT poster boys Whitney (I-684 Rest Area) Tilson and Thomas W. Carroll will even bother mentioning it.

But it seems that the Children First mentality is alive and well still amongst the EDiots. It seems that in their whoring, er, I meant application to the feds for $$$, someone, somehow slipped that $200k will be spent on office furniture. Yes!!! Read on:

The bizarre equipment wish list was so outrageous that three of the five judges who reviewed New York's "Race to the Top" application blasted it in written comments -- focusing on 24 "executive chairs" that cost $550 each, or more than $13,000 total.

This is exactly why the federal government should be hands off of local education matters. States just whore themselves for money, and don't think of students.

When I visited a Federal Penitentiary I found that the factory in the joint made office furniture for the Federal Government.

The officials claimed that the furniture sales paid for the running of the prison. That made me wonder what the cost was, both of the furniture and the prison.

One should be careful with all these figgers.

I sell furniture and compete against Prison Industries all the time. At one time many states mandated that government agencies purchase from them them first, unless it was an item they could not produce. Quality is not consistent and the operation is a private/public one - so not fair to other businesses trying to compete. I have always suspected that the “private” side of the operation was generally cronies getting payback from various governors.
