Negro is what they called themselves before that term got ‘insulting’ to them, then there was ‘colored’, ‘black’, ‘people of color’ and now ‘African Americans’.
You forgot Afro-Americans.
And now Afrikaans! Really, that's the latest! That's what black academics in America are calling themselves.

I think by the actions of some, they make whatever the current name is ‘insulting’- so they have to keep changing what they call themselves.
