Prove me wrong. Please.
Nope, the people need to figure this one out for (our)themselves. In 1775, there was no one leader to call us to action. There were Patriots in Mass. that stood up and dumped Tea in the Boston Harbor. There were local leaders that shouted things like "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death," and "If This Be Treasn Make The Most Of It."
Some view our Founders as super heros, and maybe in their own right they are. But they were ordinary men. They were shop owners, farmers, printers, lawyers, surveyors. Yet, they had a dream and a vision. A common belief. Liberty is nothing that needs a leader to call us too. Liberty is its own rallying cry.
Many claim that a few taxes were passed and the Founders stood up, made a few speeches, ruined some tea, killed a bunch of Brits, and after a bit of intellectual debate... wah-lah America.
But, it didn't happen that way. The colonists put up with being colonists for decades. They put up with Loyalists selling them out. They endured hardship and tax. And a few events lead to the spark of violence. It happened when good men decide of their own accord decided to stand together and defend their own line in the sand. Be wary of those that wish to rally the collective; we're not France.
Even after the hostilities began, the Founders sent the Olive Branch Petition. They did not want war with England and they did not want to seperate from England. What they wanted was the diginity bestowed to citizens; not subjects. They wanted diplomacy, good will and statesmanship to prevail. But, when it became evident it would not, they made their stand. It happened at the local level first.
We are not at this point yet; although very close. Many on this forum claim to be ashamed of America. They want to fly the flag upside down in distress. Are you that defeated? How can you claim American Exceptionalism and not believe the Patriot exceptional enough to prevail? Are we leftists? Shall we throw a tantrum in the street and put duct tape over our mouths? Get ahold of yourself man you are an American, now act as one.
As God as my witness I hope this country does not find itself in the throws of Revolution or Civil War. Brother against Brother, Father againt Son, Mother against Daughter. Alas, our Savior says that this is the way of the world under him. The pro-aborts have chosen theirs, and we ours; though this is not the only issue of evil at hand.
We are still the country that took 3% of the population; a population of "farmers with pitch-forks" against the most powerful army and navy in the world and WON. This is still the country that fought the same adversary a few years later and removed them from our territory.
Less than 100 years later we engaged in a great war amongst ourselves. At the turn of the 20th century, we defended the Europe we left against tyrany and prevailed. Yes, we went to war on a RUMOR that Germany was enticing the Mexicans to attack us in exchage for lands lost in the Mexcan cession [Zimmerman note pased to us by the Brits]. 20 years later we re-affirmed our message and were at war not only in Europe, but the Pacific. Our power and influence in those theaters remains though today. And the argument can be made that the sun never sets on the Amerian Emprie.
In the 50s we halted communism on the Korean penninsula. Through it all we had those willing to hide in the shadows and undermine our Exceptionalism; hence our lack of staying power in defeating the communists in Vietnam, and the fall of China to the hands of communists. We defended the sovereign nation of Kuwait against a tyrannical invading oppressor. And later we engaged in a Global War on Terrorism. We brought this fight to the enemy at the times and places of our chosing. We removed dictators from power. We put a stop to torture and rape rooms. We brought democracy to the Iraqi people.
Ironically, the Iraqis have more fair and free elections than we do. Much in the same manner as a mother that dies in childbirth.
Yet, even in times of hardship we remain the most charitable Nation in the world. We ive with our pocketbooks, skills, and our hearts. We endure even when we are chided in our acions. Look no further than Haiti, where we were accusd of invading the country, not arriving ooner, not giving enought, controllin the airstrip even thugh we provide mot of the air lifted supplies. But, we continued in our effrts, exponentially more than anyone else. The tsunami that hit Malaysia (a muslim country), we provided staggering amounts of money compared to Malaysia's oil rich muslim compatriots.
But, through all we will prevail. This is still the same country that took an immigrant, Andrew Carnegie, and allowed him to become one of the richest men of his time. A man wealthy by even today's standards. We invented the steam engine, the Bessemer Steel Process, the cotton gin, interchangeable parts, the DVD player, the VHS recorder, the internet, the assembly line, the airplane, a vaccine for polio, and put a man on the moon. We also spoke truth to power and shed blood to end slavery. We spread our ideas to those too weak to fight for it themselves. Though we are down, we are not out.
We may struggle, we may default. But, you cannot conquer an idea. And with that, America lives on. It is not a country, it is not just a land mass on a map. It is an idea, it is a belief, a way of life. It is a spark in your soul. The spark that ignites those unalienable God given rights to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Hapiness. It is what makes your chest swell and rise at the Star Bangled Banner. It is the spark and the chill in your spine at the playing of "God Bless America," and "Some Gave All."
It is the mist in your eyes during the funeral procession of a Solier, Sailor, Airman, or Marine, though you knew them not.
A leader to rally us? When and if the time comes... it will be manifested in the soul of America. We are not just a collective. Liberty and Freedom has always rested in the Grace of God and the strength and courage of those willing to guard it. An idea as endearing as America does not need a personality cult for which to rally. Even, many, of our Founders died bankrupt and penniless. They mortgaged their earthly belongings for the ideals of Liberty. there was no Sarah Palin, or Limbaugh, or Beck to rally the vast territory. No, there was community and family. It is only when we feel the true weight of our burden, will we risk our fortune, safety, and comfort to pursue means outside of the ballot. There is a calm before the storm.
Yes, we are in a dark time. And we will hang the lanterns "One if byland, two if by sea, Three if by tax," but we will prevail by ballot box, jury box, or cartridge box. And if it is by cartridge box, let us take comfort in our Creator and the knowledge that after every American engagement we have came forth a better Nation.
The boomers will not stand up as one.
Prove me wrong. Please
Are you a boomer?
Those sitting on the sidelines saying, “prove me wrong”, need to purchase some conviction and courage, or move along. We don’t need so-called nay-saying conservatives on the bleachers.
Prove you wrong?! I’m not doing for the sake of proving. I’m doing, and those like minded Americans, are moving forward because our convictions cause us to.
