"But instead what we get from Hollywood is a formulated series of rags to riches to drug addiction celebrity bios, or a four hour biopic of Che' Guevara, all of whom are pushed off as heroes to today's younger generations. With little reference in today's schoolbooks of WW II and our national heroes, is it any wonder why our country no longer knows who we really are?"

Here, here!

on the F-bomb

Dad who passed in ‘06 was a Marine who served at the Canal and Bougainville...he entered the service with his first cousin...and they went to both the Canal and bougainville together...

Dad hated cursing, a damn or hell was rare for him...His cousin was always cursing....or more likely his method of using words like Friggin instead of the F bomb with women or children around....of course when he was alone with dad, the words changed to the original F bomb rich language...

Dad always said.....if you want to learn how to curse...join the service....

I’ll admit that I wasn’t overly impressed with episode one. Unlike “Band of Brothers” which grabbed you from the beginning, this one spent too much time badly introducing the major players, and I was still not sure who was who at the end of the episode. Also, in that scene where Chesty Puller was talking to the NCOs, on the map in the background Iceland is occupied by Germany. I must have missed where that happened in my readings on the war.

I noticed several minor technical errors, it lacks the attention to detail that characterized Band of Brothers. But, the larger issue is as you say: thus far the characters are shallow and stereotypical and the story is disjointed and uncompelling. Maybe it will get better.

Iceland was governed by Denmark, which was occupied by Nazi-Germany. But Nazi-Germany never occupied Iceland during WWII...I suppose the Denmark connecton is why Iceland is marked as 'German occupied' on the map....

That is Greenland. Iceland is an independent country and has been since 1918. British and U.S. troops were stationed there throughout World War II.
