Research the current whale population levels and the numbers taken by the active whaling nations. Extrapolating those numbers out will show you the sustainability of the current harvest.

Having looked at the numbers and having a history in the fishing industry, I am comfortable with the current harvest sustainability. Regardless of your preference of meats, there is no reason for there not to be a whale harvest.

Yes. Since you are an "expert" you can explain why fish brought up with deep nets...explode, and why you throw the dead fish, under the legal limit, back into the water......

The first question is easily answered: They do not really “explode”. Their swim bladders do protrude due to the lessening pressure as they are brought to surface pressure. Fish brought from very deep depths at high speed might display a crackling or sort of sizzling under their scales, which is caused by the same lessening pressure.

The second issue is a REALLY stupid result of governmental control of the fisheries. The dead fish “under the legal limit” are thrown back for the same reason that live fish under the limit are thrown back: Because the doofus fish cop will give you a ticket with a fine if you possess said fish.

The answer to all of these issues is simple: PRIVATE control of fisheries would provide for better management. The “tragedy of the commons” is proven by the history of the world’s fisheries mismanagement by governments.

I suspect that someone bought a used computer and found the previous owner had a Freerepublic account...

LOL! I just cannot help my old-fashioned optimistic belief that logic and reason, presented in a respectful way, can drag people kicking and screaming out of the intellectual dark ages.

However, It is a far easier thing to have a firm anchor in ignorance than to set out on the troubled seas of thought.

Fair enough answer. I've seen the most beautiful Red Snapper go back in the ocean. I'm done. I think we'll just disagree on this. I see no reason to kill the whales.....hell, we can eat fish........but whales......shudder.

The Japanese feel the same way about many of our preferred dishes.

Yea, it probably seems that way. As you get older, you get more.....mellow. 10 years ago I wanted to kick everyones butt, now, I worry about fooking whales. Be that as it may be, I really think the whales are getting the short end of the stick here.
