I have had military medical care while on active duty and now as a retired Marine. We now live in Air Force country. Both the Navy and Air Force have have provided good care, I have no complaints about the doctors or staff. But nowadays, there are not enough doctors to take care of the active duty forces let alone adding the dependents and retirees. Where we are, just try to get an appointment for a routine screening exam. As an example, last fall I had to all 4 times to TRY to get an appointment and each time the guidelines for scheduling changed. I finally got in when someone canceled! And then it was not with the doctor to whose “team” I am assigned, I saw a PA..who was quite good but you go expecting to see the doctor..
And for just about any other procedure you need a reference from you PCP to another specialty. I know that is the case with HMOs too. And Tricare Prime is an HMO.
As to this idiot who wrote this article, how long did he serve this nation in the armed forces? How many times was he deployed and his family left behind? Does he not know military personnel are paid for a 24 hour day 365 days a year for being on call or subject to it? No and if you figure it out that way, you would see we were way underpaid for the number of hours we had to be at the ready.

I really REALLY thought at first this was a JOKE. A hypocrite? Because he served us in the Army and receives benefits?
This writer is getting an email from this Army mom NOW.

I have not heard such brilliance sing those freshman college dorm room bull sessions back in the 60’s when we were going to change the world.
I grew up. Mr Fields has not.
Who IS he anyhow?

Ah, thanks.
Yep, it’s a smear, but one that doesn’t fly.

I was posted in some pretty remote locations and had less than optimum care...I had a broken and dislocated toe which the Army never got around to fixing for almost eight years. When I resigned my commission and had my ETS physical, they sent me to Walter Reed and offered to fix it, but told me I would have to extend for six months. I already had a civilian job lined up and declined. I will admit my (now ex-) wife got some decent care through Tricare.

My sentiments exactly.
I am not even going to bother to take the guy apart on his very faulty logic.

Well, if the military's medical is deemed marxist, it is a perfect rationale for not endorsing it. As a military wife, it's a good thing I was healthy. The few times I needed help, I was dismissed and/or insulted with superficial care or no care at all. In the last case, I went to a civilian doctor at my own expense after calling the military clinic for three consecutive weeks for an appointment. I was getting critical. The civilian doctor corrected the problem with a simple 15 minute procedure. The doctor looked at my blood count - ever see a doctor's jaw drop and his eyes go wide?

Should our country ever deteriorate to a point of actual civil war, bugs such as Sam Fields will make it easier for some to do the really tough things.
