The appropriate word here would probably be "busted."
"My Prius went wild!" guy Jim Sikes apparently didn't realize his car carried the equivalent of an airliner's Black Box.
Ah, well. Live and learn, Jim. In the Big House.

Another 15-minuter
All new cars carry a “black box” in them. I think the Prius has one in them.
He should have dressed better for that 15...
...we’ll see him again...in orange.
“Mr. Waltz said data captured by the car indicated that the brakes and accelerator were depressed about 250 different times during the incident.”
Sounds like the guy tried the break — I don’t think this is evidence that he was lying.

Please! He’s a grifter and a fraud. Probably planning to file a big fat lawsuit until he got ratted out. I knew this was bogus the minute I read the details. To prison at once with him.
Remember the Chili Finger Lady ?
It would be easy to disable to black box(if you knew where to look).
That is exactly the point, he is NOT planning to file a lawsuit, he is not appearing on TV, he has nothing to gain. On the other hand, TOYOTA has a lot to lose.
The balloon boy hoax WAS perpertrated for financial gain.
I know that you can have a focused EMP beam.
I didn’t think that the black box reveled anything, because there was no collision.
reveled=revealed
Geeez Arch, where’s Edith???
These so called Black Boxes are likely just data stored within the multitudinous microprocessors on board. Since there are two brake systems and two propulsion sources and various combinations of which ones are in use, it's possible that some combination of rapid inputs could confuse the complex hardware operation. The new inexpensive memory chips could easily hold data from the last hour or more.
You damn betcha he was planning a lawsuit for the first 24 hours or so after he got out of the car. He is not planning a lawsuit NOW, because all the ambulance chasers looked over his flimsy bogus case and told him to get lost.
The one and only thing that lawyers care about is stuffing their pockets with money, and there ain’t a nickel in this pathetic payasada. This did not turn out at all as he had anticipated.
