WHO LOSES FROM MINIMUM WAGE INCREASES?
The Cypress Times ^ | 3/14/10 | Kevin Price

We have all heard the saying that "The road to hell is paved with good intentions." This saying could not be more true than when it comes to minimum wage. Liberals determine whether a policy is "good" entirely on what it should do, rather than what it actually does. Liberal policy makers decide they want to raise the incomes of individuals (salaries), when they should seek to increase the spending power of individuals (which would happen from increased productivity and the lower costs that follows).

This certainly doesn't apply to all Black young men

Of course. Forgive me if I spoke too broadly.

I'm also of the opinion that, for many of these young men, school does more harm than good. If they're not interested in "book learning", they would do much better in an entry-level, apprentice-type job, paid whatever they're worth to an employer.

This would provide several benefits:

- They would be in an environment of "workers", most of whom would likely be older. (For any young man, that's better than being constantly surrounded only by his peers.)

- They would learn that work is a reward in and of itself.

- Rather than expecting to receive a check for doing nothing, they would learn instead that work and pay constitute an exchange system.

- They would gain knowledge and skills which could provide a basis for improving their lot in life.

The list goes on and on. What they're currently learning in school too often pales in comparison.

Again, if I wanted to create an underclass, I'd start by laying siege to its young men and assaulting their fundamental role.

I agree with you. Our schools focus on sending kids to college who have no ability to do college level work, hence all the remedial classes available and the huge percentage of kids who do not complete the requirements for their degrees.

Instead of that, the schools should focus on making sure these kids are employable when they leave high school. Tech schools and apprenticeships are options that should be decided upon before a child enters high school.

It would be nothing short of a pure miracle if many of these kids actually succeeded in supporting themselves and their families with the current system in place.

It would, however, mean that the powers that be would have to admit that all children are not equal, and will never be no matter how much money is spent to correct that. This lack of equality is due to inherited traits (I.Q. and personality traits), and to their upbringing, IMO.

Yes, but that's a very low hurdle to jump over. I'm sure your kid is pretty smart (heck, you're a Freeper), but Obama is dumbest president ever regarding basic knowledge of economics.

Truer words my friend, truer words. So far I haven't met a progressive that had much of a grasp of economics. I'm sure there must be some somewhere, but I've yet to meet them...and I live in one of the bluest states in the nation.

Oh, btw...homeschooling does wonders in enabling a kid to not have their mind twisted.

I figure he is trying to make up through inflation for the money that smart people took out of the market when we were going to elect a socialist.

The inflation happens when Obama is gone, and the smart money starts to get back in. Then he will have to suck up money like a shop vac empties a dixie cup, or else we then have the inflation. Oh, and the government doesn’t get to spend the money first, so the government will be short of money while he is doing so...

no, the inflation will come then. Till then optimists buy gold, and pessimists buy brass and lead.

U appreciated your overall insight. However, I like this quote the best. I guess I am an optimist. The American people will overthrow the current regime through the election process.

****Even the age old ‘money makers’ such as shoveling snow, mowing lawns and baby sitting are going by the wayside due to ‘regulations etc’*****

These jobs are now being done by illegal aliens.

The question is, "Who loses from minimum wage increases?" My answer is, "By design, black society in America loses."

I'll give you that this is the question and that is your answer.

I don't believe it takes a "great amount of effort" to break free of the cycle, only the minimum amount required by anyone else trying to better themselves.
