Socialism Viewed Positively by 36% of Americans

Admittedly, I approached this article with a mixture of fear and anger. Setting aside these feelings and, valiantly I may add, resisting the urge to break something, I read. It was not until approximately 1/2 complete, that the actual story was revealed:

"Exactly how Americans define "socialism" or what exactly they think of when they hear the word is not known"

It occurs to me, that this statement encapsulates much of what I believe to be a the failings and ills of society today.

Gone are the days, if they once existed, of opinions rooted in fact and study. Regardless of your thought of socialism, should not an individual have, at the very least, a general understanding of an issue prior to lending their thoughts a voice? I cannot help but feel, that this seemingly minor issue, lies curled at the base of the majority of the problems we face as Americans today. The consistent failure, day in and out, to truly define that which you stand for and against has become an anchor on this great nation.

I have a close relative who is a big 0bama supporter, thinks he’s on the right track, doing all the right things - big liberals. But I tend to think that if it came down to something blatant, like saying they could not live in their nice house anymore, she would protest vehemently that they had worked so hard for what they have, and that it would be unfair to give away their “stuff” to people who were unwilling to work for it. I think it is easy for liberals to think about socialism being acceptable as long as they think other peoples’ money is taking care of everything. It would be interesting to see how they react if they are asked to really give up something that they have worked for and are enjoying. (Not my best writing, but hopefully you get the point.)

In my own experience, more-n-more lately, I talk to people who either totally deny any marxist connection w/this guy, or states that he isn’t so bad and, anyway, nobody else could have done/be doing better, etc., etc.

And some of these guys are old farts who resemble me even—so it cannot be the old education/indoctrination system; maybe just the msm...

Blame Rush Limbaugh. He’s done more to mess up what “socialism” means than anyone, I figure.

I think we should offer that 36% a one way ticket to a socialist country of their choice.

They are the ones on the receiving end. The others have jobs.

a one way ticket to a socialist country of their choice.

You are being kind.

We should let them get use to Socialism from the get go: 20% to Cuba, 20% to North Korea, 20% to Viet Nam, 20% to Venezuela, the rest we split between Sweden and England.

I would like to know why socialist countries are also athiest countries. Look at Germany, it’s crawling with athiests to the point that homeschooling is illegal there.

When you have adults, at least adults chronologically, believing that it is a right to have a free college education, a middle class job, free housing, free medical care, and a free car, it does not surprise me that so many want socialism. When a society teaches its young that equality is the most important function of a just government, the only reasonable choice is socialism. Freedom does not produce equality. It allows people the opportunity to succeed or fail. If you do not work, you do not eat. freedom leads to liberatarianisn or classical liberalism.

A year or two ago they surveyed 100 people in France and got zero Christians. I wonder why heathens are attracted to the concepts in socialism. One think that does make sense is that they covet anyone that has more than them.
