I’m in GA and I know of several families that have done the exact same thing as the Touhy’s.

I'm in Arkansas and it's the same here. They just can't accept that people care about children (and adults) no matter their race/color!

It's about LOVING and caring for people and not about RACE! Everything is NOT ABOUT RACE!

I’m in Pennsylvania. Every summer busloads of inner city New York kids come to our beautiful countryside to stay for part of their school vacation with white families. The program is the Fresh Air Fund.

We have been hosts for over ten years.

One friend up here adopted her Fresh Air Fund boy,(African-American child), raised him with her three sons, supported him throughout his HS years as a local star basketball player. He then went to Penn State on a full scholarship and later on went on to a professional basketball career.

So, yes, it does happen. All over our fair and wonderful land.

I know Freepers do not like Oprah, but she has had the subjects of this heartwarming story on her show several times:

http://www.oprah.com/relationships/North-Carolina-Families-Adopt-Liberian-Orphans.

Several affluent families in the Charlotte, NC, area were motivated by Christian love to adopt members of Liberian boy's choir that performed at their church. Some of the couples were “empty nesters” ready to enjoy some time alone. Others had children even younger than the teenage boys. Others adopted more than one choir member and even brought their siblings who were back in Liberia to live in America. It is a wonderful TRUE story of Christian love and “colorblindness”.
