Tainted honey can contain pathogens or chemicals, Watkins says. Its not often the case with hobby beekeepers, but the issue is, a lot of food is changing. Peanut butter is growing bacteria now. The possibility is there.
No other food is allowed manufacturing without health department inspection, Watkins says, and the bill would create a dangerous precedent.

How dare we ask for less regulation instead of more!
Forget killer bees!
Killer honey is the real danger!
That's a preposterously idiotic statement, even for a journalist. If the twerp is afraid of honey, how about he doesn't buy any?
I live in a predominantly Italian neighborhood where growing tomatoes is a competitive sport. When will home gardens be plowed under by the FDA?
Oh yeah, I live in constant fear of beekeepers and their honey, they are second on my list right after the zero and Congress!
Illinois needs more tax revenue...
I’m guessing, right about the time there’s a major disruption in the commercial food supply. You can’t pass a massive federal takeover of the entire grocery industry unless you can show people starving in the streets, after all.
GOOD POINT!
This is a state with a $13 billion dollar hole in a $28 billion budget. Good to know they’re keeping on top of the important stuff.
Let’s just kill all the bees. That should solve the problem.
Hmmmm
Poor science
Poor logic
Increases costs
More govt
Was this - perhaps - proposed by a dim-bulb-crat?
From this January article:
http://www.examiner.com/x-36302-Tacoma-Green-Living-Examiner~y2010m1d19-Pure-honey-in-a-contaminated-market
“Honey laundering is saturating the US market with cheap honey that is watered down with high-fructose corn syrup or containing harmful chemicals.
This substandard honey is driving pure honey out of the market, replacing a natural food source with an unhealthy substitute and driving pure honey producers and processors out of business.”
“Local, small-hive honey is usually only strained and bottled. It contains antioxidants, enzymes, vitamins, and provides other benefits that are lost when the honey is processed in a large facility. Some people believe that small-hive honey has a better flavor, and that small quantities of local raw honey reduce allergies. This honey does crystallize faster, but the crystals will not affect flavor, and will melt back into honey under a low heat.”
It’s pretty clear that the move from self-sufficiency to dependency is being encouraged in every sector of the Agricultural economic base.
After reviewing the Leading Cause of Death stats back to 1990 in the State of Illinois - I notice not one death from the killer nectar.
Profitability over Protection rears it’s ugly head again.
Someone with a personal financial interest is trying to get this law passed. Appears it’s not working, though.
Which friends of Nobama personally stand to profit from this?
The Proposed Illinois bills (SB 2959, HB 5755, and HB 6132) need to pass to protect Bee ‘Keeps. The IDPH needs to work on the more dangerous things in the world (commercially produced meats and flying saucers).
Oh, I see. I think my state government should pay attention to flying saucers, too ... much more productive than most of what goes on in Raleigh ... ;-).
