Al Gore Turns Purple

I am not sure how to classify certain global-warming proponents. As I have said many times, the majority of climate scientists are honest, hard working men. Some are more prone to error than others, but that’s life and no cause for alarm.

A few are willing to make sharp short cuts, and let pass disqualifying mistakes; but they do so because they feel their results are ultimately correct. Some have said this qualifies them as “hoaxers.” I do not accept this. A hoaxer is a con man, somebody who knows his theory is false, but he promulgates it anyway, for personal gain or fame.

Others, like Dr Hansen, are in the grip of True Belief. To them, the End really is near. And when they act on this deep conviction—by making atrocious public statements, or by advocating minor criminal behavior—I cannot become overly upset with them. I even admit to some amusement.

Yes, we should—and I have—point out the depth of their religious fervor. We should call on the more regular members to admit that it’s possible to go too far. But, as long as the True Believers do not cross the line and advocate or cause physical harm, they are essentially harmless.

That’s scientists, I mean. Politicians and pundits are a different matter. They can cause real and lasting harm. It is they that must take up the banner of the scientist and lead the charge. And it is they that choose the battles.

MONDAY'S GREGALOGUE: HE'S BACK, AND BACKIER THAN EVER

Well, he's back like Chucky, and twice as Yucky.

I speak not of my former houseboy Roderigo (we still can't find him, alas), but Al Gore, who mysteriously disappeared as his self-propelled universe of climate change hysteria started to crumble around him.

Gore was always "the boy in the plastic bubble" - he could go anywhere and say anything he wanted about the coming apocalypse - but you couldn't say anything back. He was protected by the shared assumptions of a like-minded media, fawning academics and that cool habit of skipping out of conferences before those awkward Q and A sessions.

But now he's reared his hallucinatory head - in yet another bubble - the New York Times op-ed section. There he addresses the "climate-gate" mess - but being a true believer, he prefers to call it an "attack" on science, and focuses only on details he feels comfortable defending.

He sidesteps Phil Jones' revelations of no global warming in the last fifteen years, and the fact that the famed "hockey stick" graph that Gore embraced like a bag of éclairs, is a fraud.

So what is Gore's defense? He writes...

"But the scientific enterprise will never be completely free of mistakes."

And therein lies the hubris. Fact is, just months ago, Gore would have told you there were no mistakes when it came to manmade global warming science. Belief was pure.

Now, after all the fabrications, cover-ups and "mistakes" have been exposed, you have the commander-in-climate...shrugging.

Of course, he still clings to catastrophe, pretending it's based on fact. But facts are not what you're hearing. What you're hearing is all the air coming out of the bubble.

And if you disagree with me, then you sir are worse than a racist homophobe who eats polar bears.

Then, since none of Mr Gore’s statements contain any uncertainty, and given that he is intelligent enough to understand that these uncertainties exist, and given his recourse to “market fundamentalist” practices meant to enrich himself, we can conclude that he is a fraud.

This is as clear as can be said. Therefore, when is Al Gore going to get his next award? Maybe a Nobel Prize for poetry, a Grammy, or maybe a Tony.

Certainly Al Gore should eliminate himself from further comment on the global warming fiasco until the reports of sloppy work, lost records, carelessness and intimidation can be resolved. The “scientific” foundations of global warming are now in question since the conclusions are based on faulty if not false assumptions.

Al is the beneficiary of tens of millions of dollars from past activities and stands to make many millions more should this fairytale continue. Al can not be an honest broker or spokesman since his very credibility and financial fortunes hang in the balance. If man-made global warming is found to be junk science this will be a personal and financial disaster for the Tennessee pant-load.

Doh!
