Congressman Joe Sestak said in a television news show that the White House offered him a top federal job in an effort to keep him from challenging Senator Arlen Specter in the state’s Democratic primary.

Eh. Offering federal jobs to candidates to keep them out of elections is not only an age-old practice, it's actually legal.
