Texas, the Lone Star state, is no stranger to American Idol, and this year Texans have a 1 in 4 chance of winning American Idol now that Christopher Golightly has been eliminated from competition and replaced with Tim Urban from Duncanville, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, TX. (click here for the story)
No other state has as many contestants as Texas: 6 of the top 24, which is the equivalent of 25%. California and Illinois each have 3; Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Florida each have 2; New York, Connecticut, Ohio, and Iowa each have 1.
Out of those six from Texas, four are from the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, or 1/6 of the American Idol hopefuls. This is significant because Kelly Clarkson, the first and arguably most successful American Idol winner, hales from Burleson, TX just south of Fort Worth ...

I remembered him from tryouts, and couldn’t figure out whey they never again showed him on camera. Just edited out his segments, I guess, rather than explain it.
