This brought a smile to my face.
O’Reilly always seemed to me to be a Liberal who wanted to make money as a talk show host and is smart enough to understand that you can’t do that as a lefty so he adopted what he thought of as the Conservative position. Sometimes he got it wrong and when he got a lot of static from his listeners he usually recanted or just stopped talking about the subject. This happened a few times because conservatism, being assumed, is not natural and sometimes he would take a position without studying it to figure out the proper conservative position. As he has grown more secure in his talkhostship he has allowed his Liberal proclivities more room and will eventually be a Liberal Talk Host while retaining some of his “conservative” listeners who think he is just “independent.” He is sort of a straight Andrew Sullivan but a little slower.
O’Stupid fakes conservativism to get an audience and then in the name of “fair and balanced” plays socialist. He’s a mental case. Hey, maybe Meghan McCain could chat with him on the phone.
