And given their purpose I don't see what there was to talk about.

Precisely! Glad to see that you finally acknowledge that Lincoln wanted nothing less than a full scale war.

"For the purpose of establishing friendly relations between the Confederate States and the United States, and reposing special trust, &c., Martin J. Crawford, John Forsyth, and A. B. Roman are appointed special commissioners of the Confederate States to the United States."

Lincoln's political aspirations did not include 'friendly relations' but it did include the slaughter of 600,000+ people.

They sent three people to accept Lincoln's surrender

Yet more revisionism and lies from the Great Non-sequinator.

I have no idea

Yeah, we know.

but they obviously didn't read the Davis letter.

Nor did you.

How you could stumble to a conclusion so completely wrong is not really surprising, but I still have to wonder about the thought process that went into it. Or lack of thought process more likely.

You claim that the rebel crew was sent to 'negotiate'. Negotiate what? Was an end to secession open for discussion? Was a return of the federal property stolen open for discussion? No on both counts. The rebels were not there to negotiate anything, they were there to demand recognition and nothing else. Unless Lincoln caved in to that demand then there was no purpose to meet with them on anything. And even if Lincoln had caved in, the idea that they would have seriously considered paying for anything they stole or reimburse for their share of the obligations they repudiated is ridiculous. Nothing in the Davis letter indicated a sincere desire to do either. Merely an offer to discuss 'matters of interest to both nations' that is so vague as to be meaningless.

Lincoln's political aspirations did not include 'friendly relations' but it did include the slaughter of 600,000+ people.

Actually it was the Davis regime that decided that Sumter was worth the slaughter and the destruction of the South that resulted from their attack. Turns out they were wrong.

Yet more revisionism and lies from the Great Non-sequinator.

I'm assuming you read what you posted? They were there for one purpose, to obtain recognition of the legitimacy of their acts of secession. How was Lincoln supposed to do that without completely surrendering to their demands?

Nor did you.

I did, actually. Though it's pretty clear you did not.
