The grassroots political movement known as the Tea Party is doing a great job of reminding both parties what a large segment of the American people want and what they deserve under the US Constitution. But are they ready to govern and will the attempt by some of them to become a legitimate political party do more harm than good? That question may be answered this year in Nevada as the Tea Party of Nevada has qualified as a third party there and will have a candidate in the Senate race against Majority Leader Harry Reid.

The link isn’t working.
Remember the year that Perot ran. Not a good idea IMHO.
This is Ross Perot all over again!
It will only elect Democrats.
That falls under the category of “anything’s possible” but I think conservatives have a better chance if the Tea Party folks work with the Republicans (as long as the Republicans are willing to work with them).
It’s working for me. But here it is again in case I messed up the first time: http://www.talkingsides.com/blogs/2010/02/14/will-the-tea-party-save-harry-reid
3rd parties won’t win - only assure (D)s to control.
Yup, the first thing I thought of when I heard about Ashjian was Perot.
I’ve never heard of Asjian.
There will be a book out about Harry Reid that will be devastating.
Was the Republican Party in Nevada so entrenched in RINOs and Progressives that they refused to work with the Tea Party?
I sincerely hope that in other States Tea Partiers try to work within the GOP rather than become like Ross Perot.
THIS is another example of why someone like Sarah Palin should be the GOP chair instead of “my way or the highway” Progressive RINO Mikey Steele.
I understand. I was just taking an oblique shot at the implication that the Tea Party should shut up and get behind all republican candidates.
The republican party has very low approval polls whereas the Tea party movement is much more popular than either political party. Many of the republican candidates should be acceptable, but I don't see the republican party as the most objective party to decide who tea partiers should vote for.
"In the 1998 Nevada U.S. Senate race, Democrat Harry Reid won by 401 votes over Republican John Ensign. Libertarian Michael Cloud earned 8,129 votes."
Please copy and send to everyone even hinting at a third party.
Yikes! That makes this latest news even more unsettling.
I am interested in this because my family is working with the Tarkanian campaign.
I would say that Nevada is the last place on Earth where they need a Tea Party candidate.
If there is 3 on the ballot in Nevada, Reid will come in Last.
Reid better retire.
Dean Murray(R) campaign (and may have won the NY State Rep. seat) made the most sense in his interview on Fox this a.m.
His TEA (Taxed Enough Already) approach was promoted within the GOP as a movement for principles - not a third party entity.
I think it’s about time the RINO’s stop dissing the Tea Party folks and either put up or shut up. If they don’t want to get behind true conservative principles and work to see them translated into policy, then they will get precisely what they deserve.
If that fractures the vote, then so be it. The time for conservatives to be shunned into accepting less than the best has passed. If we are to save this grand experiment, we must reassert the conservative foundation as outlined in the US Constitution.
It’s time to take back the country.
Jumping the shark moment for the Tea Party? Seems to me that it would be more productive - not to mention easier - to reclaim/reform the GOP for conservatives rather than to go head-to-head against them. Then again, the GOP is so broken that such might not be a viable option.
