Let me be the first to write this political obituary. I met Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison for the first time in 1991, when we invited the then-Treasurer of Texas (a position that the voters retired soon after Kay was elected to the Senate) to speak to a student organization at The University of Texas at Austin (UT). She was, and is, a very gracious person who seemed in (slightly) over her head.
When I asked Kay about the Texas Constitutions Legislative Budget Board (LBB) and how it is supposed to arrest growth in state government, she made it clear that she was not familiar with this provision, even though as Treasurer she was a member of that Board. The fact is that the LBB never met so that they could avoid setting a limit on state expenditures. She should have known that.

If I remember correctly, KBH ran for state Treasurer with the promise to retire the office.
No Kay, no way.
and Perry is also a RINO
and that other babe running is a TRUTHER.
Welcome to FR. KBH is too much of a Washington insider, and now Debra Medina stuck her foot into her mouth.
Looks like four more years of Gov Goodhair.
He’s done ok by me. Texas is in better shape than all the other states at this time.
Great response to Debra’s answer here at 3minute mark:

I was hoping to see Texas increase border security the past couple of years. If he had told DC to take a hike and Texas would secure its own border, he would get well over 50% of the vote.
I don't trust KBH. She is a femminist pro abortionist Washington insider who is fronting for powerful people who want to get their hands on the billions in budget surplus that Texas has.
Kay Bailey-Hutchison is John McCain in a dress.
I think we are going to find that the Perry/Republican-enabled overspending is coming home to roost in the next biennium. He has been relatively good on life and guns, but terrible on spending, taxes, border enforcement, property rights, education, etc. Better than KBH, but that isn’t saying much.
There are states in better shape - North Dakota, for example.
We’re going to vote in the same-old, same-old. We’re screwed.
Yup. Perry is flawed, but compared to other states, Texas is in good shape. Aint broke, don’t fix it...
Kind of hard to close the border when you are only one person, the four largest cities are run by Democrats and are sanctuary cities and everything south of Houston is pretty close to all Democrat and Mexico. Been to Brownsville lately? If not, take a visit down there, stand on the bridge going into Mexico and just pretend you are the Governor and you are there to announce that you are going to close the border. IMO it was easier to close the border between Iran and Iraq. Best thing we can do for Texas’ illegal immigration problem is to get rid of the Democrats in Congress - both Texas and Washington.
I haven’t been to Brownsville lately, but have been to El Paso. It is just about as bad there. I agree with voting every dim out of office, even the local dog catcher.
I agree about the border thing. When Perry put the virtual fence experiment up, I participated in it. It wouldn’t take much to do that and there are plenty of Texans who would volunteer to watch for certain times on their computers. It needed a lot of tweaking to do it right, but I thought the idea was a good one.
Would you be saying the same thing if your daughter was being forced to take Gardisil or if the state was condemning your farm to build the TransTexas Corridor? Those are two items on Perry’s agenda that fortunately other people had the sense to stop.
My sense is that Texas is in better shape than other states because of where we are and what we do here. It helps that we’ve never let government run amuck like California has.
It doesn’t speak well for Perry that he’s benefiting politically for being unable to execute his plan.
Yes, and he's done OK, all things considered.
Maybe in those four years, we can find a real conservative to run instead of some wacky Paulbot and a liberal, has-been US Senator.
“I agree with voting every dim out of office, even the local dog catcher.”
Quislings!
Yes it was a good idea, but never implemented as it should have been. I would volunteer to sit and watch as well.
Agreed, but most real conseratives actually have to work every day, so we can continue to pay taxes and the liberals can keep sucking at Uncle Sam's tit.
