Good point. I merely refer to it using the language my father used. To him, they were properly labeled pacifists. I need to study that era more carefully someday and try to discern the nuances of the terms in play at the time.

Beg to differ. Found a “book” online that describes the situation in terms that exactly correspond to my dad’s general description, that we had roaring good knowledge of everything Japan was up to, including the clumsy, noisy approach to Pearl Harbor, and that it was completely inexplicable from a navy cryptographer’s point of view that we should have been so completely unprepared. Please do not accept the notion we didn’t know. We knew:

BTW, it’s been an emotional night for me. I have a new respect for what the cryptographers did to help win the war, and how rare a breed they were.

I’m really trying to understand why Perry is perceived as a RINO:
Not living in TX, I don’t follow everything but from what I’ve read:
He’s a 10th amendment advocate
He’s for lower taxes
He wanted to refuse any part of the stimulus
He’s Pro-Life
He is a 2nd amendment advocate

So just what is it about Gov Perry that causes some on here to slam him whenever he is brought up?

I don’t have a vote in this but when someone says that you’ve been called a truther and gives you the opportunity to agree or reject the claim...and you don’t reject it...she’s a truther.

Alex Jones came out with a video attacking Sarah Palin, Beck and Perry, along with an endorsement of Medina 2 days before the interview with Beck.

There’s no way she didn’t know about this rant - it was all over facebook, for one thing.

I listed a few of my gripes with Perry.

For the most part I like Perry, he’s done some things that I prefer he wouldn’t have.

I never believed Medina would beat Perry.

I wanted to vote for Medina, in hopes Perry would see Medina doing better than KBH, as a signal... folks want a more conservative governor.

I don’t know what it is for everyone else, I just know what I think and what bothered me.

I don’t think I’ve beat up on Perry other than to say I want him to be less rino. Maybe rino isn’t the best word— more conservitive on some issues, that’s what I want.

I don’t think I can vote for Medina even in protest now.

He’s for lower taxes.

That must be why taxes on my property were raised.

See post #54. He also supported the land grab formerly known as the Trans-Texas Corridor.

Perry is a RINO.

You heard wrong about the vaccine. (By the way, there is already a mandate for another STD, the vaccine against Hepatitis B, given to babies at birth and 6 months.)

The Governor actually ordered the head of the Department of State Health Services to make it easier to opt out of not only Gardasil, but all vaccines. Parents are required to go through the paperwork each year and the old rules required a request to get the request to opt out. Perry ordered the DSHS that, rather than having to request the form with the special raised seal in writing, to make the process available on line.

The head of DSHS is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Governor. The DSHS has the power, thanks to the Legislature of Texas, to mandate vaccines without further oversight by the Governor or Legislature - at least ‘till the Gardasil events.

Gardasil had over 5 years in testing at the time, now it’s 10 years. 1200 teens were included in the first trial. (The reports you’ve heard about bad reactions are not true, either.)

Gardasil had already been recommended by the FDA, meaning that it was automatically added to the Vaccines for Children list 30 days after the recommendation. These vaccines are paid for by a combination of Federal and State funds and provided free of charge by docs who participate with VfC to all children up to age 19 on Medicaid, CHIP, the Indian Health Service, indigent care, and all kids without insurance or whose insurance won’t pay for vaccines.

I heard part of this interview live this morning, Glenn Beck was not at his best.

Like a true politician, she tried every which way to avoid answering a simple question. How was Beck "not at his best" when the candidate refused to give an honest answer?

That law is the Texas Advanced Directive Act, which doesn’t have the word “futile” in it. It is based on the medical judgment of the attending doctor who is writing the orders for the nurses, etc. It protects doctors from being sued if our medical judgment leads us to disagree on end of life care of patients - whether to resuscitate if the patient has a living will we don’t know about or to do surgery on a patient with a hip fracture and an old Living Will that says no intubation. It also provides a formal process for when patients — actually patients’ families, not patients — want “everything done” when all we’re doing is prolonging death.

I worked on the ad hoc committee to amend the law, which would have stretched the process out past 30 days. Unfortunately, the Bill failed because we ran out of time in our 4 month session. I never saw Medina testify on this or any other pro-life or family bill.

Your local authorities collect your taxes, set your value and tax rate. And, unlike the sales tax, that money stays in the district.

The Legislature tried to lower school taxes by 1/3. But most school districts immediately pushed the rate to the limit again.

That sounds like more than just "local officials" are setting rates.

There was no sucker punch here. I listened to the interview yesterday. She was very good right up until the question about 9/11. It’s a simple question. Do you believe the government was part of the 9/11 plot (I’m paraphrasing). When she couldn’t give a no but had to dance around the question, she sounded like a politician that is a 9/11 truther but does not want to admit it. What was so hard about saying no, the government was not involved in it or yes they were? No sucker punch, just a straight up question.

"He even touted how he liked Perry and hung out with him before he brought Medina on."

Perhaps your right and Beck had it out for her from the beginning. However, up until that point in the interview I thought she was doing real good and had some good ideas about doing away with property taxes in Texas and instituting a consumption tax. She was saying all the right things right up until the end of the interview. All she had to do was say no she doesn't believe the government was involved in 9/11 and it would have been a good interview for her IMO. So no matter what Beck's intentions were, she screwed herself over.

So Glenn Beck made her answer the question that way? Seriously?
