Absolutely. My Dad worked his behind off doing menial whatever he could get who ever would hire him kinda jobs. Eventually he work up to the point he was manager at a really large auto mechanic shop.
Very proud of him.
He screwed up, served his time and turned it around.

The warden at the prison he was at (made forced required) that if you did not have a high school diploma, you did nothing else until you got your GED. When you were not on your work shifts you studied a trade. So in that sense he did get help.
