I’ve looked over the site. You are WRONG.
The site was started less than two years ago, and is a group blog with classified ads. It’s not a “newspaper.” It doesn’t employ “over 100 writers” — it is a group blog with a handful of regular contributors and a larger set of stringers.
Blog team members include people such as:
My Secret Sin
Walking With Christ
Rays of Son
Doug’s Inner Circle
Palace of Poets
Jesus Puppy
Poet Mosaic
I think it’s great to have a blog, and to have contributors who are Christians. But to call it a “daily newspaper” that “employs over 100 writers” really is disingenuous.
I also noticed that many of the columns on thecypresstimes.com are not exclusive to thecypresstimes.com, but are reprinted from other sites.
When you publish your excerpts here on FR, they should not be in general news, but in the blog area, since thecypresstimes.com is a group blog.
If you’re honest and transparent with me, I think everyone would appreciate it: Are you affiliated with this site? If so, is your name John G. Winder?
Everything I post is in the blog area. Are you confused as to what section you’re reading?
The Cypress Times is owned and operated by a friend of mine. Yes, they’re less than two years old. No one said otherwise. There can be such a thing as a “new” newspaper. It is a daily newspaper. It is also an online only newspaper.
The blog team members you list; are strangely listed in The Cypress Times as Columns or Columnists. Not blogs.
They do have over 100 columnists and contributors. Many of the columns in the New York Times are not exlcusive either - its called syndication.
The Cypress Times has dozens of local news sections - including Area School Sections, Local News, National News, Texas News, Christian News U.S., Christian News International, Sports, and More...they define themselves as a daily Christian Conservative online newspaper -
From their own “About Us” page -
“The Cypress Times: Christian. Conservative. Online. Daily News.
“TheCypressTimes is a 100% interactive daily online multimedia newspaper.
“The mission of The Cypress Times is to report and cover the Good News and how it relates to Community, Faith, Family, Business, Politics, News, Schools and more through compelling writing, reporting and multi-platform media.
“The Cypress Times content includes: News: Local News, National News, and International News, Christian News, and International Christian News. The Cypress Times covers sports, business, real estate, cooking, and more on a daily basis.
“The Cypress Times features a robust Columnists Section offering opinions on a variety of topics ranging from Politics to Faith to Current Events to every day observations. All columns are solely the opinion of the columnist and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of The Cypress Times, its Publisher, Editor or staff.”
LONG Before the term Blog existed there was a newspaper term called “Opinion/Editorial” The Cypress Times carries many of those.
They also specifically have a blog section.
So, I don’t really think defining them is your job. They’ve already defined themselves. Here’s a suggestion. If you don’t like my posts - don’t read them. Not reading them, rather than bitching, moaning and complaining about them would be far less time consuming.
PS - The Cypress Times has also won some statewide Journalism Awards - as a Newspaper. By the way, you say The Cypress Times has stringres....news organizations employ stringers - not blogs.
