Some of the People Fooled All of the Time

I am sorry. I just have to ask. How can it be that President Obama's approval rating (this according to Rasmussen) can fluctuate so widely following the State of the Union?

On January 23rd, prior to the speech, his Presidential Approval Rating hovered at a career low of -19; 24% strongly approving of his performance, 43% strongly disapproving. Overall, his approval was at 44%, overall disapproval at 55%.

For my part the January 27th speech was exceedingly disappointing. No new ideas, no acknowledgement of past errors. Rather, the president appeared arrogant, defiant, petulant; in short, he looked like an unrepentant adolescent. Still, just a few short days later his Presidential Approval Rating shot up to -4%, a swing of 15%. I considered and reconsidered the fact I may have missed something in the speech that others found appealing.

But then, no even two weeks later his Presidential Approval Rating has plummeted back down to -17% and his overall approval is once again 44% with 56% (one percent greater) disapproving overall. Roughly back where to where he was before the speech.

Who are these people? The ones who vacillate back and forth? I am all for strong-minded, independent voters, but this is something else. President Obama has never strayed from his leftist, Marxist, certainly unconstitutional policies. He may have sugarcoated them from time to time, re-characterized them perhaps, but he remains firmly grounded in his dogmatism.

How is it then, that such a wide margin of the voters can be fooled over and over again?

You may deceive all the people part of the time, and part of the people all the time, but not all the people all the time. Abraham Lincoln

His personal approval rating is driven by people afraid of being labeled racists by the thought police. Kind of like a reverse “we support the troops but are against the mission”.

Fake numbers.

His real numbers are going to fall faster than a lead balloon and will settle lower than a dry well by summer.

I commented with almost your exact words to an earlier post a couple of days ago. What “kicks” the numbers? Does someone actually wake up the morning after a speech and think he’s great, then 2 days later change their mind? I don’t get the numbers. If was anyone but Rasmussen I’d “worry” about the numbers ... but their numbers have been the most right over the past 3 years. But I still wonder. It would be fun to talk with Scott Rasmussen about this phenomenon.

The bounce in his ratings created by the SOTU must be attributable to one or some combination of the following:

Commenting here to myself. I thought this was interesting enough that I wrote a letter to the folks at Rasmussen and asked if they had any data from other questions that may have been asked at the same time. Be interesting to see if I get an answer.

Who are these people?

Well if they actually polled the same exact people the change might have been slight. I think we are forgetting how difficult it is to get a representative sample every time.

Listening to him depresses people so much that they turn to drugs and alcohol, and they are still high when the approval rating polls are taken, and then a few days later, these same people sober up and come to their senses.

It remains true that many Americans are swayed by flowering words and kindly sounding rhetoric. All too often there exists little understanding of the misleading progressive “code phrases” that sound so nice, until you understand that certain groups will be subject to undue injustice in the name of the greater good. We are in the “Atlas Shrugged” nightmare scenario, few recognize this.

It can be explained very easily. In his State of Øbozo speech he reclaimed some support from the hard-left that is critical of him because he is too “moderate”. They like the “new” arrogant and confrontational tone because they HATE you and me.

Fortunately, this support is so wavering, so tenuous, and so temporary. John Edwards was only partially correct - there are two Americas - Øbozo’s America and the real world America.

With the coast~to~coast gaffe machine running at full steam I predict a steady downward spiral that will make GW’s manufactured low ratings seem adoring in comparison...

Most people do not pay much attention to politics. They only hear the sound bites, and never dig down to find out what the sound bites really mean, or pay attention to what politicians are actually doing. Because of this unfortunate inattention, politicians can get away with running conservative campaigns and acting completely liberal once they get into office.

yeah the only flowery words I am going to listen to are from a beautiful woman at the bar.

The rest of the people? I say prove it or demonstrate it. I don’t trust you. Nothing personal but people have their agendas and say whatever they can to fulfill that agenda with no intention of actually accomplishing anything.

Obama’s artificially high numbers are after three years of non stop rah rah cheer-leading by liberal media types, while George Bush held up fairly well in spite of 9 years on non stop abuse by a biased media bent on his destruction.

If every American had been forced to listen to his off teleprompter “speech” at the GOP retreat they would shocked at exactly how crass and clueless he really is. Instead, far too many people are too lazy to see anything other than what is spoon fed them by the media.
