Some Reflections on the Iraq War

I still hear lots of people saying that the Iraq War was stupid, not necessary and not related to Islamic fundamentalism. They also contend that President Bush was wrong to involve us in that war.

The problem with the people who say this is that not only do they continue to ignore the multiple reasons for the incursion that have been discussed ad infinitum (belief Saddam had WMD, violations of the terms of Desert Storm, attempt to assassinate Bush 41, multiple violations of UN edicts, the oil-for food scandal, etc., etc.), but also that these critics have much too short a time span.

Good points.

What had Saddam Hussein done to make himself worth taking out?

1) Invaded two countries without warning (Kuwait and Iran) and lobbed missiles at Israel during Desert Storm.
2) Waged ethnic war and visited genocide on at least two indigenous groups in his own country.
3) Played cat-and-mouse to foil UN inspections of his suspected facilities.
4) Engaged in massive corruption via the oil-for-food program.
5) Attacked out military aircraft in the no-fly zone, in violation of the treaty he signed after Desert Storm.
6) Provided safe haven and training facilities for known international Islamic terrorists.
7) Set up a tyrannical rule-by-murder regime in which no opposition of any kind was allowed to exist.
8) Apparently dumped vast amounts of banned toxic chemicals in the Euphrates River just before our invasion, and moved a caravan of who knows what to Syria, thanks to the 6-month warning he had of impending invasion.
9) Assembled the world's 4th largest army and tried to bully and bluster himself into leadership of the pan-Islamic movement for world domination, even threatening SA at times.

Just a nice authoritarian type of guy trying to make the world a better place, right?
