Ah, the good ol' days. Note the "gay patterns." Golly! Read the comments from the original. There's enough good readin' for the pro- and anti-DDT folks.

Gay STILL means happy and cheerful. Just refuse to allow the libs to control the language (thus, controlling the culture).
We still use “gay” in our home to describe something happy and cheerful. If we are talking about the homosexuality, that’s what we call it!

Flies spread polio??
Polio (or "infantile paralysis") was the "global warming" of the 1940's. Except that it A) actually existed and B) was eventually curable.
When polio was finally cured, the anti-polio industry was in a tizzy. Instead of saying 'our work is done' and going home, they went after more nebulous targets. So the March Of Dimes started tackling 'birth defects'. Since there will never be an outright cure for all birth defects.

"Gay" means happy...carefree."Homosexual" means an individual that engages in a particular type of perverted sexual practices.

Yet after this cruel exposure to toxic substances, people who were babies back then still survived and grew to adulthood. Hmm.

Polio (or “infantile paralysis”) was the “global warming” of the 1940’s. Except that it A) actually existed and B) was eventually curable.
Comparing polio to the global warming scam is quite incorrect. While a vaccine for polio was found in the 1950’s in the 1940’s it was a very real and present danger that could abruptly snuff out the life of a child or adult, there was no cure, and nothing that could be done to reliably prevent it(unlike, say, AIDS, which can be avoided with 99%+ success by avoiding certain sexual and drug abuse practices). Even in 2010 there is
no cure for polio, a fact which puts anyone who has not been innoculated at risk.
Prior to the availability of the vaccine, summers(the time when polio was most likely to strike a victim) were a time of anxiety for parents, since little Johnny or Mary could be in perfect health today and dead in a two or three days. I personally know a person who lost a playmate in his childhood quite abruptly.
But even adults were at risk, since there was no way to know if you had been exposed to the virus and been rendered immune, or simply been lucky in your childhood and never exposed to the virus. Franklin Roosevelt was almost forty when he came down with polio.
Let me take the opportunity of this post to warn all its readers to make sure loved ones are vaccinated.

All I’m saying is that in the 1940’s if you wanted to market a product, you’d say it helped stop polio. In the 2000’s if you want to market a product, you say it helps stop global warming. (IE: “Green”).

Prior to the availability of the vaccine,
You might also add that all research into the polio vaccine and its ultimate discovery was conducted by the private sector aided by the March of Dimes with NO federal funding whatsoever......
And as a side note, one theory that stands out involves why some children never developed polio while others did. The theory is that the children who never contracted the disease had immunities built up in their bodies due to their constant playing outdoors, getting dirty and not constantly being forced to wash their hands or bathe.......
In other words, being allowed to do what children did at that time without overprotective parents telling them not to get dirty and insisting they wash their hands at every opportunity........
As I said, its just a theory

You think the parents of boomer Republicans avoided that wall paper when they were babies? How prescient of them.
