Yes, the NEasters which are really lows moving up the coast are the primary winter storm origin. But they are most invariably rain or mixed S/R because of off the ocean effect.
Like another poster above says, one almost never sees the trajectory seen on this map, at least in terms of snow.
I'm skeptical on snow accumulation in tidewater or the eastern shore; it will be interesting.
But poor NC just can't get away from the ice stuff. I'd rather the fluffy stuff than that.
Here in Tidewater I call them “drive by blizzards”, snow on Tuesday, slush and mud Wednesday and golf on Thursay.
