I was always amazed at how Obama won by so many people thinking he was a “nice guy”, when it was so obvious to me he was a self absorbed narcissist.
The first thing I ever heard about him in detail was when during the NH primary he followed a reporter into the audience and told her, “I don’t appreciate you making fun of my ears”.
After I noticed in every speech how self important he was, how he continually used the word, “I”, and how he was fixated on his own legend. During his speech on Rev Wright he said, “he disrespected me!” Say it out loud to yourself. It’s impossible to say it without sounding petulant. Yet people were mesmerized by this speech. Chris Matthews was beside himself.
I can understand people falling for a speech, or lies, or whatever, especially when covered up by the press. But how could they think this guy was presidential? He’s so obviously lacking in personal character.
I'm curious about your rather insightful comments. You're right about how the phrase 'he disrespected me' sounds when said out loud. Never been that puffed up before... strange.
Here's my question: What is it in some people that makes them respond like Chris Matthews did - what's going on with people who worship the narcissist? Any insights on that?
