Why Debra Medina's Candidacy For Texas Governor Should Be Nationalized
Economic Policy Journal ^ | January 24, 2010 | Phil Pepin

Debra Medina against all odds is quickly becoming a viable candidate the implications are enormous.

Scott Brown's shocking victory is a mixed blessing for the cause of freedom. On one hand it has put a major roadblock in the path towards Obama Care. On the other hand Scott Brown is a big government Republican. So far there are no signs that true reform is taking place in the GOP. The people in control of the party during the worst two consecutive election cycle defeats in GOP history are still in control of the leadership nationally. This is why a Debra Medina victory is a tremendous opportunity to return to the original constitutionally limited government given us by the founders.

Medina married into a Hispanic family that like all true Texas citizens have no respect nor sympathy for illegals crossing into our state and enjoying our hard earned Tax payer paid services.

I hope you take the time to visit her website and listen to her debate on Jan. 29. We want to be a truthfully informed electorate in March.

We must demand that our elected officials support and respect the 10th amendment and Texas sovereignty. The U.S. Constitution not only protects citizens' freedoms in the Bill of Rights, it also divides power between the federal and state governments and ultimately reserves final authority for the people themselves. Texas must stop the over reaching federal government and nullify federal mandates in agriculture, energy, education, healthcare, industry, and any other areas D.C. is not granted authority by Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution.

Weasel words?

I have not seen any incumbent Republican speak with such straightforward speech as I have quoted to you from her website.

If there is anyone more straightforward and more Conservative then would you please show me?

Good triangulated statement for an political website, just like McDonalds’ claiming that they have healthy meal options. When it comes to the details of many of the “how’s” in regard to border security, she falls short.

For example, she opposes Voter photo ID laws which would curtail illegals voting. In an interview with Peter Morrison back in December she also said she only supported a border fence in ‘densely populated urban areas’ but didn’t want us to ‘look like East Germany, surrounded by walls’. In the same interview she also stated she opposed local law enforcement from having authority to enforce immigration laws- the same stance that libs going after Sheriff Joe have.

In her article “Latinos and the GOP” she actually criticized KBH (who I don’t like) for voting against Sonia Sotomayor because she was concerned more about winning the hispanic vote than Sotomayor’s positions. In the same article (Latinos and the GOP), Medina said we need to think about the ‘Latino’ interest in shaping immigration policy.

If anything, she is good at saying all things to all people, so there may be a place for politics for her.

BTW, in another thread someone said Medina was for open borders.

Wrong, they lied to you.

I’m glad you brought up Obama. He’s really good at making grand statements he doesn’t believe in. She may just be another one like him - says one thing to get elected but believes something altogether different.

A few on this thread so far claim to have heard her waffle on the issure of enforcing immigration laws before Hispanic crowds.

Having a political record is important. It isn’t just what someone says - it is what they DO while in office. Actions supporting the talk.

How many times have Republicans been burned by someone talking straight-line conservatism who once they got to Washington, D.C., morphed into a liberal?

So who does it better than her? Perry? KBH?

Just crafty weasel words -

Ask Medina straight out -—

As Governor of Texas - would you support a U.S. Law granting Amnesty to the estimated 20 million illegal aliens or would you work against amnesty...

As Governor of Texas ... would you sign Texas Legislation denying state benefits to illegal aliens in Texas...

As Governor of Texas ... would you sign Texas Legislation denying - absolutely - giving drivers licenses to those who could not produce evidence of U.S. Citizenship...

As Governor of Texas ... would you sign Texas Legislation making it mandatory that voters produce evidence of U.S. Citizenship before being registered to vote and/or allowed to vote in an election...

As Governor of Texas would you sign Texas Legislation reducing the number of entry points from Mexico into Texas...

I challenge you and anyone else to push Medina into a corner on these subject and ASK REAL QUESTIONS - demanding real answers ...

If you do -— you will still get WEASEL WORDS... a la George W. Bush ... my nanny was an illegal alien and I know they are good people... sob sob sob...

NO - NO to ILLEGAL ALIENS - Say it or STFU.

In regards to border security, at least Perry attempted to initiate Operation Linebacker and move the National Guard to the border. He was blocked by the feds. Medina, on the other hand, doesn’t think it is in the State’s jurisdiction to secure the border (Morrison Report- 12/2009)

Perry sucks at a lot, but better than an amateur who would rather trust the feds to secure Texas.

Funny-when she spoke to a group at my house, she had what I though was a very good plan—that made the local sheriffs in the border counties the ones who would have the power to send them back and protect the borders. She was very adamant about it.

Yes exactly - thank you for helping me make my point — She speaks the WEASEL WORDS I am talking about...

If one REALLY stands strong on an issue - then sidetracking weasel words are NOT NECESSARY ...

JUST SAY IT - No Amnesty ... Close the border, secure the border - and I mean SECURE THE BORDER... stop illegal crossings — all of them - including the vast movement of drugs... and PEOPLE.

Which completely contradicts her statement to the Morrison Report back in December when asked "Do you believe that local governments and law enforcement officers have the authority to enforce immigration laws?" she answered "No, believe that immigration law enforcement is clearly the purview and responsibility of federal law enforcement."

..all things to all people.. she will make a good politician.

You tell me.

I'm saying it doesn't happen enough to even talk about.

What does happen is when someone says just enough of good sounding pap to make people hope that they won't get burned by another RINO. Usually it is a moderate with some (lower case) conservative talk that gets people's hopes up.

When was the last time you saw anyone put in writing their views that we need to NULLIFY federal laws in favor of states rights?

When was the last time you saw anyone run for office on the basis of ELIMINATING property taxes?

As far as her reported waffling, as you can see on this thread, people are prone to hear what they want to hear and post what they want to post even if they can't substantiate their claims.

Immigration SHOULDN’T be a local law enforcement issue but if the feds won’t do it then the locals have to.

I don’t see a contradiction.

I see someone who knows who is supposed to do the job and someone who knows who will have to do the job.

“The GOP really need look no further than George Lopez’s tear into KBH’s vote against Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor to see an example of the seriousness of potential Hispanic voter back lash. Indeed if Republicans here in Texas expect to win this next election, no longer can the GOP not see the disparity between its future and its rhetoric. No longer can the GOP wait until the fourth quarter to include Latino voters. No longer can the GOP be sideways or indecisive on immigration and border security and other Latino interests as both KBH and Gov. Perry have been.”- Debra Medina

Yes - Medina stupidly equating a Mexican Border Fence / Wall with the Berlin Wall...

A little education here Ms. Medina — the Berlin Wall was built to KEEP CITIZENS IN East Berlin ... to keep East Germans from getting OUT...

The Berlin Wall was NOT BUILT to keep West Germans out ...

SO STUPID...

A real U.S. Mexico fence / wall - if ever actually built would be done to KEEP ILLEGAL ALIENS OUT of the U.S ... plus keeping Mexican Drug Lord Gang members out ... plus keeping drugs like cocaine out ... plus keeping Americans from being KILLED...

I just have one question. After nine years as Governor, what makes you think Perry is going to stop the flood of drugs and illegals and killings on the border this time around?

I don’t know what a Paulistinian is but I wonder why Ron Paul has failed to endorse Medina in her run for office? What does that mean?

Damn - do you ever READ... PERRY is not acceptable — Hutchinson is not acceptable... Medina is Not acceptable for reasons stated...

I said - from the outset — if you would READ — that I wanted Medina to succeed — UNTIL I read closely what her position was on Illegal Aliens REALLY WAS... not her weasel words...

HELL - I’d vote for anyone — for Texas Governor - even a Democrat — IF they would just oppose Illegal Aliens - oppose Amnesty - and really really secure the Texas - Mexican Border...

Medina - NO
Perry - NO
Hutchinson - HELL NO

Is there a write in candidate for Texas Governor...?
