With Palin on board, he has to be careful how he wiggles.

first of all, no he doesn't... he doesn't care... but even if he did "behave" for nine months because of Palin, doesn't bother you? you are essentially saying that he has to behave until he wins re-election... and then once he's won, he can go back to his same ol' ways... and we know his ways... how can you be okay with that?

Based on past behaviour he does care about his image, largely with the wrong people, except before elections. I admit that once he's elected, there is nothing to steer him in the right direction.

I never said I was "ok" with any of it. If it were me, I'd either hold off on an endorsement altogether, or say that either Republican (though I don't believe he has an official opponent, yet) would be better than the Dem opponent.

I see nothing wrong with trying to think of the best possible (but also plausible) explanation for such an endorsement. It could well be that Palin actually thinks his heart is in the right place, and that while holding values similar and compatible with Freepers, weights them differently. There were some VERY good people who thoght Giuliani was acceptable, because they figured he was the one least likely to get NY vaporized with a series of dirty bombs. I don't agree with such sentiment, but I don't write off those who buy into it, even though I wrote off Giuliani himself.

It is also possible that Palin is trying to demonstrate that she isn't on a kamikaze mission to go after no movement incumbent Republicans. She still has to show herself astute enough to build a coalition, of voters, organization support, and campaign finance. She's not Ed Clark or Harold Stassen. And I refuse to call someone irredeemably tainted just because she refuses to marginalize herself.

Someone said that politics is the art of the possible. I have said before that the political landscape today is like a major highway exit off of any small city. You are not going to get to dine at the Waldorf-Astoria or 21. You are looking at McDonalds, Taco Bell, Church's Fried Chicken, and TGIF. TGIF might look pretty good. For 2012, Palin is the equivalent of TGIF.
