This does not sound like the nuclear option, is it?
The nuclear option is when the majority of the Senate ends a filibuster by invoking a point of order which declares the filibuster unconstitutional (which can be decided by a simple majority), rather than by seeking formal cloture which requires 60 votes. Frist was going to use it to stop the Democrats from blocking Bush’s judicial nominations, but he was blocked by the bipartisan Gang of 14, which included McCain and Linsey Graham and the other usual Republican suspects. This is what they are going to get in return for their trouble (what they would call a “principled” stand).
