I tend to think of Perry as a fair-weather conservative. As long as the sailing is smooth, he’s conservative. When the wind picks up, he goes center FAST.

Perry managed the Mondale campaign against Reagan in Texas in 84 and supported Gore in 88. He was a democrat long after the Reagan Revolution.
