It was well known, especially, to District Attorney Martha Coakley, who had by then arrived to take a final, conspicuous, role in a case so notorious as to assure that the Amiraults' name would be known around the globe." Gerald Amirault spent eighteen years of his life in prison for crimes he manifestly did not commit. "The accusations against the Amiraults might well rank as the most astounding ever to be credited in an American courtroom, but for the fact that roughly the same charges were brought by eager prosecutors chasing a similar headline—making cases all across the country in the 1980s. Those which the Amiraults' prosecutors brought had nevertheless, unforgettable features: so much testimony, so madly preposterous, and so solemnly put forth by the state. The testimony had been extracted from children, cajoled and led by tireless interrogators."

I went to Jr. and High School with Cheryl. The charges against them were insane. If you believe there were clowns in hot air balloons raping children while flying over Malden then vote Coakley and affirm mass insanity.

The tactics used to prosecute the Amiraults are now used by criminal investigators as the standard of how NOT to run such an investigation.

Martha Croakly is a detestable woman. How she can live with herself and sleep at night knowing full well what she did to that family is beyond my ability to understand. And the sad part is that she’s gotten away with it and has absolutely no remorse.

Janet Reno did that to another family down in Miami BC-before Clinton and when she went back after her stint as AG she continued to work hard to keep them in prison. I don't know if they ever got loose. I remember the most fantastic charges levied against a defendant since probably the Middle Ages. The Salem trials were in the same league but not as fantastic. If those folks had done some of the things alleged there would have been some dead and dismembered children.

I still wonder how the kids involved in all those trials are faring as adults.

This lady should become the national poster child for Democrat candidates and office holders. She is the quintessential liberal. And she is very representative of just how states and cities run for years and years by liberals have come to be in the miserable condition we find today.

Hopefully Scott Brown’s success in going head-to-head, seeking a Senate seat that was all but assured of going to a Democrat, will put some spine in others to take on the monster.

I am especially proud of conservatives for standing up to the crowd that has tended to let the perfect become the enemy of the good. He’s certainly not what I would want to represent conservatives in Congress, but thankfully he will be immeasurably better than the opponent.

Here is one I ran across from Washington State. The man was set free in 2004 and his children later recanted. I don’t think the man is completely out of the woods yet according to the article. In post #24 someone mentions the Amirault case:
