The reason this problem exists for tea party members is that with a non-Democrat in the seat, Senator Harry Reid would not have the 60-vote filibuster-proof majority he is enjoying right now. Unfortunately, there are some problems with the Republican candidate Scott Brown such as the fact he voted for RomneyCare.
RomneyCare is socialized medicine for Massachusetts. Worse, Brown is certainly not the kind of limited-government, fiscally conservative candidate about which tea party members are so keen. Rather, he is a typical big-government Republican.
The tea party movement nationwide is obsessed with ObamaCare and wishes to do everything it can to stop it. This is where they come into a bit of a problem. There is a tea party candidate running as an independent. He is confusingly and ironically named Kennedy (Joe), although he is not related to the clan at all. He is a conservative who believes in limited government the type of candidate that most tea party types across the land profess to want to see elected. (Here is a good examination of how they differ on the important issues of the day.)

I hope Kennedy throws support to Brown here in these last critical days. Even if Brown has a mixed record as a conservative, the political necessity of gaining that 41st Senate vote and depriving the Dems of 60 is way too important in terms of stopping the disaster that is happening. Furthermore, the psychological blow to Dems everywhere in the country will be so great, they will really be on the mat for a while.
But you have voters who think a paternalistic government is the right course of action. They do not want government cut down to size. Therefore it does matter who is in office for both sides. If we can get a moderate Republican elected from liberal Massachusetts, then that’s a huge victory and not the lesser of two evils. But that’s just my opinion.
One of the most important facts some people overlook is that Brown, if he wins, only holds the seat until ‘Kennedy’s’ term is finished. Brown, despite his other records has made no bones about the fact that he will vote against Obamacare. We just need him to break the filibuster-proof DIM majority long enough for us to get through November and get more Republicans and conservatives elected to break the DIM’s stranglehold on the legislature.
Dodge is using PM’s pages to promote a leftist fraud. And he’s flat-out lying about who this man is. He’s no conservative, he’s never been a conservative... he’s trying to split the anti-democrat vote and throw the election to Coakley.
That reflects very poorly on PajamasMedia in my eyes.
There is not a conservative to be found in this race. That’s a clear fact.
Now back to your now-regularly-scheduled FR ‘Republicans root for the pro-abort out of political expediency’ barf-fest...
I agree.
Maybe the best hope for a candidate like Brown is that the political winds are blowing towards fiscal responsibility. That may counteract the 'Seduction of the Dome' that overwhelms near all in Congress.
As long as Brown votes against the truly egregious legislation like the health care bill, or any step-children thereof, and the Crap and Slave environmental thing.
He is Eddie Murphy. Just not funny.
