Any ex-prisoner who has returned to the fight should be sweated for whatever information he has and summarily executed.

Oh yeah, I can see that. Being at Gitmo is like "special training" for al-Qaeda... and has the benefits of being promoted fast up the ranks.
It is not the policy of releasing Gitmo prisoners itself that is the problem here. It is the executon.
There is nothing wrong with releasing prisoners a few miles out of Guantanamo Bay, as long as the waters have been properly chummed shortly before the release. Televise the event on PPV and Gitmo will pay for itself.
