Excellent post! You are right and I am constantly astonished by those who believe that Nazis were followers of Christ!! Standing in a garage doesn’t make me a car. Accepting Christ as one’s Savior involves the regeneration of a soul through the Holy Spirit. It does NOT involve working towards salvation, making up one’s own rules to get to God, etc...
