Folks, I believe that the Commandant, General Conway, does not have the courage to tell Congress that the Marine Corps made a mistake in the Haditha incident. In order to promote LtCol Chesanni, the Commandant would have to validate that the Marine Corps, General Chiarelli (then Commander of Multi-National Corps – Iraq and now Vice Chief of Staff of the Army) and Mr Murtha all made a huge mistake in judgment.

Mr. Mabus has a Harvard Law Degree, served as Governor of Mississippi, the Mississippi State Auditor and two years in the Navy where he served on the light cruiser USS Little Rock (1970-1972). I feel his legal background combined with no combat experience will not fare well for Jeff Chessani. Especially since the basic issue with the Haditha case is the charge, under the rule of law, of murder. In other words, Mr. Mabus may tend to agree with Mr. Murtha’s sensational charge of “cold blooded murder” in addition to rubber stamping any endorsement the Commandant of the Marine Corps submits.

These two paragraphs sum it up, at least from my point of view.

The real undue influence in the Chessani case, all the Haditha cases for that matter, has always been Representative John Murtha(D-Pa.), the Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense.

It is Murtha who decides what the service branches recieve in funding. Murtha wants a Marine scalp from Haditha, are Conway and Mabus the weak sisters who will hand it to him?

You nailed it, Smooth.

It is Murtha, the elephant (better known as jackass) in the room that started this fiasco of persecution from the beginning and continues to influence it. From past indications it looks like both Gen. Conway and Mabus will give him that satisfaction.

These two paragraphs sum it up ...

Just now finished reading this article and came to the same conclusion. Nice to see I agreed with YOU, regardless how sad it all is.

Do I understand this correctly -- the SECNAV only served 2 years in the Navy, more than 35 years ago, and was elevated to SECNAV?

The real undue influence in the Chessani case...has always been John al-Murthawi!
Absolutely! Did they think we would forget if they drug it out for nearly 4 years?

Thanks for the ping, jaz.
