" ...tried to imagine a bigger load of bunk. I failed."

Or did she? 'Cause just a few paragraphs later, she starts the predictable whining about earnings:

"on average, a woman still earns about 78 cents to a man's dollar (or $78,000 compared with $100,000 paid to a male colleague with the same level of experience). And women with children are less likely to be hired and are offered lower salaries than are fathers or women without children, according to Stanford University researcher Shelley Correll."

At least the big load of bunk she brings says "earn". Which makes it true, even though she's trying to give the impression that womens' lower earnings are unfair. But anyone who compares same-job earnings to same-job hours worked sees it my way, which is the right way. See: Why the Earnings Gender Gap in Business? Women Work Less

New York Times By ALICE PFEIFFER Published: April 29, 2009

PARIS — The worlds of finance and big business are notoriously dominated by middle-aged men. But recent research suggests that this may not be for the usually suspected reason — a glass ceiling molded from male prejudice. The research, by Marianne Bertrand, a professor of economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and two Harvard economics professors, Claudia Goldin and Lawrence F. Katz, provides a statistical explanation: women with children fall behind because they work less, the study says."

Dunleavey also wails, "Many insurance companies charge women higher premiums and/or impose harsher terms (by rejecting claims or curtailing coverage), especially for those of childbearing age. Examples ranged from 22% to 50% higher, depending on age and state."

And women get those higher premiums because, what with childbearing and plumbing/drainage trouble, and lack of false bravado and denial, they use the medical services provided more often. Old dad, retired dairy farmer, usually didn't hafta pay overmuch for his privately-purchased health because, as one agent told him, farmers will work until they're almost completely dead, and then they might go to the doctor, if they make it all the way to his office, and don't die on the way.

Hey, MP, if the products are the same, but cost more for women, why don’t women just purchase and use the products made for men? What? You never thought of that? I guess that might be because you are too enraged by your “agenda”.

What’s yer point? Women do get charged more for things. Sometimes it’s better to trot off to the men’s department if you’re just looking for a t-shirt for summer. Same stuff, different price.

As for more doctor visits. There are some women so busy with family they barely have time to take care of themselves. Except for that oh, so fabulous trip to the gynie. Yeah, we just can’t wait to overuse the insurance on that! Not that you could if you wanted to. There are limits on visits.

two bottles of Nivea body wash: one for men priced at $5.49 and one for women costing $7.49.

I can tell this idiot how to make it cost $7.49 less to be a woman..

Several years ago, Fox news in NYC did an investigation on this. A womans white tailored shirt cost more retail and to dry clean when they were essentially the same shirt. There were other examples but it’s been awhile and I’ve forgotten them.

When women start getting treated the same as men in family court for issues of divorce, custody, and child support, THEN we can talk about skin cream, kmay?

The answer to her question is simple. When it comes to things like beauty and hygiene products, girls are suckers. I live in house full of them. It's amazing that the only shampoos that really work, or don't cause allergic reactions don't say Suave or White Rain, or Walpoo (I made that one up, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is such a thing) on them.

It's just simple, and perfectly ethical, price discrimination. The seller has identified two groups (wasn't very hard) that have different spending characteristics, just like business travelers and leisure travelers do.

If women are willing to pay $5.50 for a bottle of something, and the comparable man is willing to pay $3.00, and he is completely unconcerned with how it's packaged or whether he saw a glamorous ad for it, well, you'd be in idiot not to exploit the market as it presents itself to you.

So the real point is that price controls are needed to ensure there is no discrimination.

They make moisturizers for men? I would hope there is not much of a market for things like that.

Although I do have to admit that a hot hydraulic shower leaves the skin soft to the touch.

Why do women's haircuts cost more than men's?

Umm...I don't know....maybe its because women generally HAVE MORE HAIR THAN MEN!

My current squeeze is 50 years old and age has been kind to her. She has a natural beauty about her. She doesn’t wear makeup or lather all manner of exotic junk on herself. She can most often be seen wearing Levi’s and a nice top or teeshirt without looking cheap or like a biker chic.

If we decide some morning to cruise over to the coast, I don’t have to wait for her to primp or moan about what to wear for an hour or two. She doesn’t wear jewlery.

She’s comfortable in her own skin. She’s educated and makes pretty good money as a consultant, a job she doesn’t have to dress up for.

She gets thru life just fine without having to put on the dog.

I think most women put themselves in a position of having to spend more due to their own lifestyle choices. Oh, did I mention she’s trained to leave the toilet seat up?

I’m sure that if any woman patronized my barber and asked for a #2 cut on the sides and a light trim on top, blocked in the back, she’d get charged the same amount as I do. I do wish I could find a barber that’s not afraid to shave the back of my neck with a straight razor, though.

From haircuts to health insurance, moisturizers to mortgages, women are charged more than men for essentially the same stuff.

If its the same stuff, then buy it in the Men's section and go to a barber.

Any woman who sits down in a barber's chair and asks for a high taper - #3 will pay the same exact amount as a man. Women complaining about hair cut costs is classic liberal BS. A man sits down and 5 minutes later gets up and pays the tab. A woman sits down and an hour later wonders how much longer it might be. You are paying a labor charge, so don't be shocked that longer costs more.

As for personal care products, women are willing to pay more than men. A man (hetro) wouldn't even consider paying $25 for a small tube of cream (unless it cured a bad rash). Many women think nothing of it.

There were two bottles of Nivea body wash: one for men priced at $5.49 and one for women costing $7.49.

Why the 2-buck difference? Nivea's reason, according to Consumer Reports senior editor Tod Marks, is that the women's product is made with "skin-sensation technology," which makes it more expensive.

Oh, come on... We all know why! Heck, I've known it since kindergarten... Girls have kooties! So they're harder to clean, that's why their body wash costs more!

Mark
