My personal like is a stage coach type double barrel with rabbit ear hammers. Any long gun is going to be tactically difficult to swing around in closed quarters, so short barrels are fine, you won't be shooting anything more than a few yards away. I like the rabbit ears as a positive visual that you are ready to go. At night you can also feel them in the dark well. Also if you come up against an intruder the visual of those two 12 gauge barrels and the sound of you clicking back those rabbit ears will do the trick. Why shoot if you don't have too. The sound of a pump action is also a scary thing. Question is to leave loaded or not. If not where are my shells? Get a stock holster that keeps the shells with the gun, unless you have kids (or a cajun spouse) around. SASS has some gunsmiths that will set up double barrels with slightly oversize receivers so you van load fast but gunsmithing isn't cheap. Whatever you buy, you’ll only be as good as you practice. But then, it's hard to miss with shotgun. I wouldn’t load up with double OO or slugs. You do not want to shoot through walls. 03 is my choice. Maybe one, the first barrel smaller shot than that. A load of squirrel shot will knock a person down but they have a good chance of surviving, if it just ticks ‘em off, the second barrel will end it. I have never had to actually shoot someone, but I have used the intimidation factor to ask them to leave. You do not want to clean up after a gun battle. Especially after a shotgun wound. Be safe!

You are correct about the stage coach double barrel it is perfect for home defense.

Loaded with the shot size two rounds is all you need. I have one next to my bed.

However the sound of a Remington pump being cycled will put the fear of God into anyone!

I have one of those as well.

Not true

Home defence is mesured in feet 25 or less.

At that range a shotgun has a pattern measured in inches not feet.

Add in a moving target a bit of excitment and a shotgun is far from a sure thing.
