In “workers paradises” it goes like this - Leaders, Party bosses and goons get the most. The police and military who prop them up get some - the criminal class at the bottom gets a cut to do the dirty work - and the former middle classes work because they're somewhat terrified not to... except they don't work much - hate their overlords... etc.
Look at any two bit dictatorship and you'll see those at the top living like kings.
