I wonder if under the old rules, where senators were elected by the state legislatures if a monstrosity like the current “healthcare” bill would have ever even been considered.

I Guarantee my state of Nebraska would not have provided the 60th vote.

I think I can state an emphatic NO. The Senators would have to keep their State Legislatures happy in order to be nominated a second time. State Legislatures had (and need to have) a closer relationship with the electorate. If they chose someone who did not adhere to the State's wishes, the State could recall him.

THIS IS WHY we voters MUST become more active in our STATE POLITICS and at the County and City level. Remember how Sarah Palin started out? And where she's ended up? If good Conservatives do not get involved [read up on Michele Bachmann's story], then the Liberals will think that Conservatives don't care about politics and will do as they please.

Going into politics is probably low on anyone's list. However, Heritage Foundation and Get Out Of Our House websites have information to help a person and guide him through the process. If your spouse has a job that can pay the household expenses while you're in DC, if your kids are old enough to appreciate what you're doing [and maybe one of your teens can be a Capitol Page], if you're willing to put in 16-18 hour days while in DC, learning everything you can about the Constitution, previous laws, etc, etc., if you're articulate, if you can remain calm when confronted by Liberals . . . then maybe you're ready to run for public office. Start small, get people to know who you are and what you stand for. Run for a County office or a City office if you live inside the limits. Learn your craft and hone your skills locally. Then run for the State Legislature. And maybe, if you're as dedicated as someone like Michele Bachmann, the Party will come to YOU and ask you to run for Federal office. Or maybe your constituents will peg you for Governor of your State.

The only thing that allows Liberals to take over our Country is Conservatives who will not get involved in local Politics with an eye to Federal Politics.

And blog, too. Get connected to your electorate and supporters through a blog.
