Oprah Winfrey interviewed President Obama for one of those dreadful Christmas-at-the-White-House specials that leave me pining for an Andy Williams Christmas special.
When we elect a president who can sing "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," I will watch a Christmas-at-the-White-House special.
Of course Oprah asked: "What grade would you give yourself for this year?"
And of course the reply was a modest B-plus.
I give the man an A. Come on, he has the Nobel Peace Prize, which is a pretty good feat for a fellow who just ramped up the war in Afghanistan.
He also has spent more money than any first-year president, and he has proposed taking over the rest of the health care industry - the only industry outside of the government that is growing in America.
When he is done, the federal government will control roughly one-third of the American economy.
But Obama's biggest accomplishment so far is making President George Walker Bush look good in the public's eye.
When he left office in January, a Gallup Poll showed 32 percent of the public approved of the job Bush did in eight years as president.
Now, 11 months later, the liberal Public Policy Polling found that 44 percent of Americans would rather have Bush as president. Only 50 percent now favor Obama over Bush.
As a person who thinks Bush was a great president, I thank President Obama for this accomplishment.
His dogged pursuit of policies the public does not want - CNN had a poll that showed 61 percent of Americans oppose Obamacare - and his narcissism have combined to give him the distinction of having his approval rating fall faster than any president in his first year in at least 56 years.
Obama spent two years openly running for president against George Walker Bush. This has come to bite Obama.
Criticizing Bush for spending too much money - a legitimate criticism - makes Obama look like a hypocrite for tripling the deficit.
Automatically dismissing the Surge in Iraq as a failure undermined the public's confidence in his Surge in Afghanistan, which I support.
Then there is his credibility. He said if we did nothing, unemployment would rise to 9 percent. We did what Obama said we should do and unemployment topped 10 percent.
Scrambling to find some lipstick to put on this pig, the White House said 640,000 jobs were created or saved. The press poked at the numbers and found ridiculous claims such as saving 935 jobs at a community organization that has 508 employees.
And who will ever forget the 440 phantom congressional districts that were in that report?
The president should have known he was in trouble when he went on every Sunday morning talk show (except Fox News) and the ratings numbers were flat from a week earlier.
Does he think the networks did not notice the dead-cat bounce in the numbers from President Obama's appearances?
To restore his ratings, the president needs to get Obamacare passed. If I were a Democratic senator right now, I would be milking my vote for a king's ransom or two.
Next, the president needs to start working with Republicans, because after next November's elections, there should be more Republicans in Congress than there are now.
That is just how it works in a mid-term election. Showing some bipartisanship should blunt those losses.
Obama needs to override his attorney general's goofy decision to try the five Sept. 11 attack planners in a civilian court.
Also he should get the Navy to drop the courts-martial of three Navy SEALs who are accused of giving a terrorist a fat lip.
Obama has had a poor first year as president. He cannot afford another bad year.
He must learn from his mistakes, or else that 44 percent for Bush may grow into a movement to repeal the 22nd Amendment ban on a third term.
Well, he ain’t a b-hole, that is for sure.
What make you think this isn't happening. I'd love to see the GOP require all these back room deals being shoved into this mess in order to buy votes be read out loud. It would tie up the Senate until spring. Then you'd have primaries so you'd see a few more dems drop off.
Speaking of Obama’s B+,,, has anyone ever seen his REAL grades from college yet? Or High School? Oh wait,, my bad, thats still a state secret!
Yea, that one sure disappeared fast... not a damn word about where THAT cash went.
Yeah he deserves an “A”. “A” for atrocious.
