Gibbs Cites al-Qaeda’s Criticism Of Gitmo As A Reason To Close It
Flopping Aces ^ | 12-16-09 | Alec Rawls

Posted on 12/16/2009 7:59:50 PM PST by Starman417

Thirty-two times since 2001 and four times this year alone, senior Al Qaida leadership in recruiting videos have used the prison at Guantanamo Bay as a clarion call to bring extremists from around the world to join their effort.

Is Gibbs aware of what else al Qaeda criticizes? Abu Musab al-Zarqawi:

We have declared a bitter war against democracy and all those who seek to enact it.

Should we get rid of this "recruiting tool" too? What about the World Trade Center, which al Qaeda so hated? Are Gibbs and Obama relieved that this longstanding irritant to the enemy is no longer causing trouble?

The current administration is listening to Al Qaida while ignoring American legal citizens?

Wait!.... Al Qaeda’s opinion holds more sway than American’s opinions?

Can one of the clowns in the White House tell us what AQ used for recruiting for all of the terror attacks between the first WTC bombing in 1993 and the 2nd in 2001?

"Al Qaeda’s opinion holds more sway than American’s opinions?"

It would seem so. But what the hell. Obama has more in common with muslims, communists and socialists than he does with us.

Well thank goodness we’re moving Gitmo to a place where al-Qaeda won’t hate us.

Well if we just closed Gitmo Al Queda just wouldn’t want to harm us anymore! What’s that? They attacked us half dozen times BEFORE Gitmo was used to house terrorists?

There was a congressman on Fox a day or so ago who said 'We're not closing Guantanamo, we're moving it'.

Moving it to the US gives the captured terrorists rights and gives their lawyers objections to their incarceration under Habeas Corpus.

I need a lawyer!

I know a good one, they used Iraq as a recruiting tool. While Clinton was President. They said the sanctions against Sadam was killing their fellow moozlims through starvation and lack of medicine. I remember it.

Will they just dub the name of the new Illinois prison where they had said Gitmo, or will they refilm the entire scene to include the new name? Or will they love us forever now that we will move the prison a couple thousand miles north?

I think you meant to direct that to G Larry.

Your point is good but you left out the chemical weapons Saddam used on the Kurds.

"Moving it to the US gives the captured terrorists rights and gives their lawyers objections to their incarceration under Habeas Corpus."

Actually, the Hamdi and Hamdan decisions of 2004 and 2006, respectively, made the location of the enemy combatants moot. The Supremes decided (wrongly IMHO) other things that enemy combatants are entitled to habeas review.

Essentially, SCOTUS has ruled that irrespective of where the enemy combatants are kept, they are never entirely out of the reach of the US Federal Courts. Of course, even beyond the legal reasons, there are other legitimate and substantive reasons why moving these prisoners to CONUS is a bad, bad idea.

Of course it's a recruiting.

"and if you get captured by the Americans they will send you to a tropical paradise and feed you three times a day with plenty of food that even the prophet Mohammed would love...."
